- Become AP certified and advocate to teach one of the many AP courses available
- Work with a social justice organization in your community to create an internship for your students
- Create an oral history project to highlight the people in your community and their experiences
- How can you utilize the various local museums in your community and neighboring communities?
- Students research policies/programs that positively or negatively impact the community and have them draft a plan how to further leverage one that exists or change one that they don’t like. Then have them write an op-ed to the paper, talk to community groups, etc to drum up support and begin action.
- Or create a program/policy and advocate for it to be implemented in the community
- Is there a youth mayor’s council in your town? How do students get on it? If there isn’t one, is the mayor interested in starting one?
- Are there academic journals for high school students that they can be published in for original work?
